My hope is that Mamdani will listen to advice like this, because some of the eyes on him are eager for this to fail. Or he can hire you to guide him, which I think would significantly improve his chances of success.

I am really valuing the excellent thinking and analysis coming from this sub stack about public grocery.

As a policy advocate, I've been trying to think about how additional policy designs at the federal level could make public grocery stores possible in in rural counties where All the independent smaller scale grocery stores were driven out of business by Walmart and Dollar general. I would love to hear more insights from y'all about how to translate these public grocery ambitions from more high density Urban settings to rural food apartheid settings.

As you've noted, it's been tried before, I think often has fallen afoul points one and two in this piece, so figuring out a way for A critical mass of rural grocery stores to be established at one time with a coordinated plan for procurement together would seem to be key.

Anyway, I'd love to talk about this more
